London-based four-piece Woman Wept announce themselves to the world with their powerful debut single, mixed by Black Honey's Chris Ostler. Powered by strong vocals, a solid groove and plenty of noise, it's a debut that excites us.

Zander's sophomore single is a stunning and ethereal experience. Gorgeous use of digital and analogue sounds over Zander's heartbreaking words. Clean production. It's perfect.

The pseudo-debut single. It's a pulsing effort that at times evokes Sonic Youth and yet still retains the British wit that their now-lost EP showcased. Sam Blakeley's vocals are lamenting, yearning for something that he once had. There's a weird shuffley bit halfway through. It's a proper banger.

Another passion project from Pedro Pedro Pedro's Heléna Walsh and Billy Lancaster. The duo blend synthesised noise and chopped-up samples with Walsh's unique vocal style and it results in an unapologetically chaotic three-minute sophomore single.

Manchester based artist Yasmin Coe's ear for a pop hook is evident here. The guitar riff has an early-80s post-punk vibe but this is just a banger of a 20s pop song.

Bad Taste favourite Tonia is back with another single. It's laid-back and warm, with a bed of horns that lend it a vintage feel. Tonia's vocals are low-key but still pop in the mix, resulting in a great little pop track.

Liverpool's Ria Hanley announces herself in the UK country music scene. It's badass and catchy, making you want to put on a pair of aviators and hitch-hike across the country in a pickup truck. You can't help but nod your head along.

Esteemed producer Calper (Camelphat, Ayelle) teams up with UK singer Yasmin Jane for the second time. The two come together in a funky pop cut, joining the likes of Dua Lipa and Lizzo in harking back to an era of Chic and Sly Stone.

Birmingham-based artist TNC samples a funky beat and runs around playfully against the backdrop of some nice crisp production. His tongue-in-cheek delivery is standout and the song bounces along at a good pace.

A loud and crunching offering that stomps along at a mid-tempo, relying on strong vocals that channel post-Britpop bands such as The Courteeners and DMAs. While nothing revolutionary in structure or craft, it's crisp and clean and perfect for lovers of guitar-driven rock.

UK newcomer Sam Lindsay delivers a sophomore single with a great little synth hook and a bassline that wouldn't sound out of place at the hands of Kevin Parker. The homemade sound suits the minimalist nature of the track and results in a chilled-out vibe that we enjoy.

Fife-based psychedelic four-piece Jupiter Strange hit us with another retro-sounding pop song that showcases the vocal talents of both singers. It grooves along nicely, with some classic 'oohs' and 'aahs' in the background. Are the lyrics a little cheesy? Yes. We still love it.

British-Asian artist Hongza returns with another slice of indie pop/rock. Channelling the sounds of the 2010s and cranking up the guitars, Decay does have a catchy hook but ultimately falls a bit flat as a result of one-dimensional production.

Combining some rock influences with drum machines and pop hooks, Laro comes at us with a simplistic but catchy cut. There's a slight edge in the lyrics, letting us know the title is to be read with sarcasm in mind.

Unapologetically loud and maintaining all the energy they've come to be known for, this is another in a long line of consistent indie rock bangers. Lead singer Tucker once again delivers strong vocals over some heavy drumming and fuzzed-out guitars.

Cardiff newcomer Eden Mai surprised us all with this debut single, channelling Charli XCX etc. but creating her own sound with a really alluring and catchy dance track. The production is standout and we're looking forward to more in 2023.

An artist who has been on a lot of people's radar for a while, Megan Wyn once again flaunts her Britpop influences and pairs it with the angst of the recent revival of pop-punk. It's carried by Wyn's vocals and a strong chorus, while the production is clean - if a little uninspired.

Liverpool psych-rockers The Ivies craft a heart-tugging love song, with Beatles-esque guitars which include probably the best little lick you'll hear this year. A little throwback to the 60s, with lyrics to remind you of your first love.

Soul Bananas, AKA Martim Pocinho, serves up a love letter to those around him he calls friends. The Portugese artist gives us a psychedelic but hopeful cut here, with a folksy middle section that hits home.
